“Together we shall rejoice through all the seasons”

“When you crush an apple with your teeth,

say to it in your heart:

“Your seeds shall live in my body,

“And the buds of your tomorrow shall blossom in my heart,

“And your fragrance shall be my breath,

“And together we shall rejoice through all the seasons.”

“And in the autumn, when you gather the grapes of your vineyards for the winepress, say in your heart:

“I too am a vineyard, and my fruit shall be gathered for the winepress,

“And like new wine I shall be kept in eternal vessels.”

And in winter, when you draw the wine, let there be in your hearts a song for each cup;

And let there be in the song a remembrance for the autumn days, and for the vineyard, and for the winepress.”

–Kahlil Gibran–

When Summer ends I feel no sense of doubt that there will be another Summer. In fact I am so sure of this fact that I barely ponder it. Yet often as one season of life moves into another I feel a deep sense of unrest. But there is a time and a season for everything and not all things can continue unchanged.  Change pulls me out of familiar surroundings and pushes forward.

Empowered with an understanding of the natural movement of seasons, I want to feel peace in the time of productivity as well as in the time of preparation. I want a tranquil sense of assurance when pain shapes my understanding and when sorrow carves way for the joy of a future summer.

And with an understanding that joy does not exist without sorrow, we shall rejoice through all the seasons. Together.
